Pamela Gaard is a visual artist with her education in the sciences. She’s interested in the boundary between art & science — integrating food and painted portraits into events where conversations can begin across cultural divides.

Painting portraits generally from live models, these paintings represent people who might otherwise go unseen — immigrants and elders, her neighbors in Minnesota. These portraits, in installation, create a utopia of a cohesive community; they transcend language and culture, and bridge generations.

Gaard began her studies at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and completed her education in public health at the University of WI and University of MN.

Installation by Pamela Gaard, above, in “ImMigration and the Other” at Sabes Jewish Community Center, Minneapolis, MN, 2018. (l to r): Portraits of Salah, Ugaaso, Khadra, Abdullahi, Mohamed, Zainab, and Hassan.
